WILLIAM FRANKLIN

1922-1990

When William Franklin was a child he lived in Detroit. He had a couple of hunting dogs. On the walls of his room he had newspaper clippings of football players. There was not much money to get an allowance when he was a child. He walked to school, because there weren't cars when he was a child. When he was in school the President was Herbert Hoover. His lessons in class were basic math, history and English with no favorite classes. The sport he played in school was baseball. He dropped out of school in eighth grade to earn money because of the depression. The main type of clothes were khakis worn back then.

The time that we would be using computers today William would be doing chores. William got in major trouble when he used to steal gas out of other peoples' cars.

He was really good at baseball and playing cards. When he was in the U.S. Marines, he won a safe driving award. His favorite sport was football. The magazine that he read was "National Rifle Magazine". His favorite family traditions were hunting and fishing. He had no T.V., but his favorite actors were Abbott and Costello. William's favorite breakfast cereal was corn flakes.

When he went on his first date he was about sixteen. William got around on an Indian motor cycle. He collected antiques. His favorite store was Farmer Jacks. The biggest historical event in his lifetime was World War Two. He witnessed a disaster called Hiroshima, when the U.S. Marines dropped an atomic bomb on Japan at the end of World War Two.

William got married to a woman by the name of Betty. He and Betty had three children{two girls and one boy}, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one on the way. His job was working for the CC's, after he quit school. He brought home fourteen bucks a week. Then he went into the Marine Corps. Next he was a truck driver until he retired{PROUD TEAMSTER}. His favorite memories were of his grandson, ROBERT. His saddest memory was when his grandson, Robert, got his face torn up by a dog. His favorite vacation was going to Florida and bringing back a Florida fish. The best part about the old days was when gas was cheap, and food was cheap. The city back then was booming{MOTOR CITY}! He lived in Gould City when he died, but he lived in Detroit when he was a child, quite a change.
