Gordon Edwards 1889-1930
Gordon Edwards was born in 1889 in Essex, Canada. He came to Engadine in 1902 at the age of ten. He moved on a farm with his five brothers and two sisters on a family farm east of town. His early schooling in Canada was very primitive. In Engadine he was in a one room school house until eighth grade when he had to work. Sports that Gordon liked to play were soccer and baseball in his spare time, because that's all they played. Gordon got places walking and he had a car called a Studebaker. During his lifetime World War I ended. When he worked as a sawyer at a saw mill he had his arm cut off below the elbow. He married Rebecca Patterson in 1916 in Engadine, and they were married for thirteen years. He had one son, Billy, and no grandchildren he lived to see. His favorite memory was opening the pool hall in Engadine. Gordon's only travels were by train to see his family in Essex, Canada. In his spare time Gordon was part owner of Hancock's Dance Hall at Millecoquins Lake. He died in Engadine in 1930 of blood poisoning at the age of forty-one.
