Francis Butkovich

1900-1984

Francis Butkovich was born in Calumet, Michigan, on April 29,1900. She had six brothers named Frank, John, Tom, Charlie, Joseph, and Tony, and four sisters named Eva, Mary, Ann, and Rose. Francis contracted scarlet fever at age twelve, which left her deaf.

She was really good at crocheting, sewing, and baking. She read Better Homes & Gardens and crocheting magazines. Her favorite family traditions were cooking and baking. She also enjoyed coin collecting, needle work, embroidering, and sewing during her spare time. Her jobs were working on the farm doing chores.

The town back then wasn't a whole lot different from today. The only places she lived in were Calumet, Engadine, and Epoufette. She shopped at Engadine, Newberry, St.Ignace, and Manistique. A candy bar cost her four cents. She got around by walking, riding horses, or driving a car. She walked to school because she didn't have a car at that time.

Francis was never married. Her favorite T.V. shows were " Green Acres" and "

The Beverly Hillbillies". Her favorite sports team was the Detroit Tigers. The biggest historic event during her lifetime was The Great Depression. She died in 1984 at the age of eighty-four.
